Little Traverse Wheelway

Stretching nine miles from Charlevoix north to Bay Shore, this scenic trail parallels the lakeshore and provides great views of Little Traverse Bay. It's part of the larger 26-mile trail system that extends up to Harbor Springs.

This paved, multi-purpose wheelway is available for walking, jogging, biking, and in-line skating. Those with rollerblades should note that there is a wooden boardwalk over a stretch of wetlands, but it's still navigable. A roadside park located approximately 3 miles from the trailhead offers restrooms and picnic tables. It's a good place to rest so pack a lunch and enjoy a picnic. While there, wade into Lake Michigan, cool off, and search for Petoskey Stones.

The trailhead begins at the intersection of U.S. 31 and Waller Road just north of Charlevoix. Vehicle parking can be found near the corner of Old Orchard and Waller roads at the Charlevoix Township Park. There is also parking available in Bay Shore on the Charlevoix and Emmet county line.
