Veteran's Memorial Park

Along the western half of River Street is a park that offers something for everyone including four tennis courts, a beach volleyball court, and a basketball court. In addition to recreational options, Veteran's Memorial Park is an idyllic location for a family picnic due to the number of barbeque grills, picnic tables, and grassy areas available. Of course there is plenty of space on the beach for sunbathing or just reading a good book. Also, this is the site where the Elk River drains into Little Traverse Bay. Wade into the water to search for frogs, crayfish, and maybe even trout.

Off Dam Street on the north side of the harbor is one of the best swimming sites in all of northern Michigan. Known simply as North Beach, it is home to a beautiful beach ideal for swimming, building sandcastles, or just watching the boats come and go to the harbor. Bring your beach umbrella, your sunscreen and a cooler. Be sure to stay late so as not to miss the sunset.
