Elk Rapids Historical Museum

Housed in the lower level of the beautifully restored Elk Rapids Township Hall (GET MAP), the museum boasts impressive exhibits showcasing the town's notable and dynamic past. Visitors can browse an extensive photograph collection, examine a wide variety of clothing worn by Elk Rapids residents from the mid-1800s through the 1920s, and learn about local businesses, manufacturing, lumbering and agriculture throughout the town's history.

Don't miss the opportunity to have your picture taken behind bars. Until the early 1900s, the hall's basement held the town's jail, and it still contains the one original cell. The museum is open Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday from 1-4 p.m., Memorial Day through Labor Day. After Labor Day, hours are reduced to Saturday & Sunday only until December, when the museum closes.
