The Leelanau Trail

Although arriving by car from Traverse City can provide one of the most scenic drives in our region, arriving in Suttons Bay by bicycle can provide an even more impressive entrance.

One of four individual trail groups comprising the TART Trails system, the Leelanau Trail consists of 15 miles of recreational trail along an abandoned railroad corridor. Enjoy leisurely passage through thick forests, undulating hills, golden meadows, and bucolic orchards, as well as striking views of lakes, ponds and meandering streams. While stunning year-round, the Leelanau Trail is particularly beautiful during the height of the fall color season.

There are several trail heads and parking areas along the way, so make a day of it and go the whole route, or park your car and start half-way. Whether roller blading, biking, walking, cross country skiing or jogging, the Leelanau Trail is a great way to make the journey to Suttons Bay as enjoyable as the destination.
